Working Equitation World Juniors and Young Riders

This major competition in the Working Equitation calender takes place on the 4th-8th July, at Ponte de Lima, Portugal.

Teams travel from all over the world to compete.  Junior riders are under 18, Young riders under 21. Riuders have to qualify at an international competition to be eligible to compete at the World Championships. Each team consists of a mix of Juniors and young riders, with a maximum of two young riders.

Being an international, riders will complete the normal phases of the sport - Dressage, Ease of Handling and the Speed, but will also complete a Cattle phase.

It's fascinating to see how each country is styled so differently in their national outfits.  Each team looking unique as they proudly representing their countries, the diversity in this sport is one of the things we love so much.  As a TeamGB rider, the riding attire is based around a classic English Hacking jacket. You can see some of the teams below.

The Association for British Working Equitation have taken young teams to both the Worlds and Europeans, with excellent success including a seconf place at the last Europeans, but sadly don't have a team ready this time round.

We encourage talented young riders from other disciplines to explore this sport, it offers rare opportunities to represent Great Britain in a very dynamic, high level equestrian sport.  Please get in touch to discuss how we can help you, and also take a look at the Elite Academy taking place this summer.

Good luck to all of the Young Riders for the 2023 World Championships
